There are some simple things we can all do to keep our brains healthy. For instance did you know that thousands of new hippocampus cells are made naturally each day? These are the cells that are important for consolidating short term and long term memory.
The bad news is most of them die off again soon afterwards.
But the good news – there is a way of retaining some of these cells and that is a combination of;
Exercise (increases neuroprotective factors in your brain)
Learning New skills (makes new connections and actually changes your brain positively each time!)
Reduce stress (which quickens the death of new neurons)
Good Sleep (helps to carry out processes that keep us well and to clear out harmful plaques that accumulate in the brain)
I will be doing further posts for more detail on how to reduce stress and keep your body and mind in top health as well as show you ways to have a good sleep.
Try to work on all of the above. This is a great time to learn new skills and there is plenty of free help which will make it fun and make sure you take your allowed exercise every day. (This phrase will seem so weird in a few years time!)
Until then, stay safe….
